1Great features, but unreliable
By Advanced Construction Tools
I have owned and used this laser for about 4-5 years (out of warranty now) and maybe 6-10 times, it still appears to be brand new. For the price, it has a lot of nice features and specs. But that is the end of the good. The unit powers up and functions, but after 10-30 minutes the laser starts getting dim and will not trip the receiver. At first I thought it was the receiver, then the battery, but after replacing both of those (I had to buy a new battery, not cheap), it still did the same thing. So, finally I realized that it was the unit itself that was bad. I called CST/Berger, and their response was "send it in and we will check it out and tell you how much it will cost to fix it". The laser is part of a sub-assembly and not serviceable on it own...so the part cost $350 plus labor plus calibration. And guess what, Bosch (who owns CST/Berger) could not tell me how much it would cost other than "way more" than a $100 when I asked. The local survey equipment dealer/repair shop could not repair it because CST/Berger uses proprietary calibration equipment, in fact they quit selling CST/Berger because they fail prematurely and are not feasibly serviceable (he said they have a room full of abandoned CST/Berger equipment that cost more to fix than its worth), and they all seem to fail.
I now have a $1200 paper weight that cost me about $150-$200 per use.

Save your money and buy a tool that the manufacturer does not intend to be discarded after a couple of uses. I would recommend Pro Shot/Laser Reference, or Trimble/Spectra Laser. These are both well supported by the manufacturers and quality built. They cost more than the CST/Berger garbage but in the long run if you don't have to buy two of them you come out way ahead. I wish someone would have told me what junk it was before I bought it, hopefully this will help some people not make my mistake.
BTW: I have elected not to fix the LM-800 and have since purchased a Spectra GL422. More money, but also a way better tool.

4CST/berger 57-LM800GRPKG
By Old Farmer
I purchased the 57-LM800GRPKG August 20, 2012 from Amazon.com.
The price was right and it was shipped promptly.
I haven't had it long enough to know how it will last, but it appears to
be quality built, and with a three year warranty apparently the company
expects it to last. It is very fast and easy to set up and use. I have
used it several days checking the bottom of borrow ditches associated
with levees that I am cleaning out. This is a fast, convenient and
efficient one person system that is far superior to the two person
telescope and rod systems I have used in the past.
I am well pleased with the product and the service at Amazon.com.

4Best BUY!!!
By Bwhirry
Excellent tool, works exactly as described and very accurate. There are just a few things it could use to improve its function. A fish-eye bubble level on top of the base would save time setting up and a fish-eye on the marker would keep things accurate when shooting without a vertical reference.
