5Amazing lighter
By Col. Mishap
Having had bad experiences with piezo fired torches, I decided to get one with a flint ignition and, after doing a little research, settled on a Zippo BLU. I've had it now for a year and burned through nearly dozen tanks of butane. I've read reviews on how BLU is "unreliable", "hard to light" or "hard to fill". It is none of these. It is a continuation of the Zippo legacy of reliability. Granted it is a little hard to get used to, but after just a few days I got the hang of it and since then it rarely takes more than one try to fire it up. It lights even better than my classic Zippo in a stiff breeze.

The fact it does not have a flame adjustment screw is a non-issue. The lighter functions quite well as long as the fuel reservoir is between 65 and 90 degrees F, give or take. It even functioned reliably on a camping trip in the Rocky Mountains at an altitude of roughly 10,000ft with temperatures in the mid 40s - something I did not expect from a torch lighter (keeping in mind I stored it in my pocket).

The only criticism I have of the lighter is the lack of space to carry a spare flint as compared to a classic Zippo.

A few side notes:
Follow the instructions that come with it!!! Failure to do this is likely why some people seem to have trouble lighting it.
I've burned 4 brands of butane in it (making sure the tank was empty each time) and found that the two best matches are Zippo and Colibri followed closely by Lucienne. Ronson is not high enough pressure to power BLU except in high temperatures (90+ degrees F).
Purging the tank is not necessary. Just throw the lighter in your refrigerator for five minutes if it doesn't want to accept fuel.
The fuel view window works best the the lighter is upside down.

3Zippo Blu lighter is OK
By B. NEVILLE
I originally received the Zippo lighter and found it to be broken out of the box. Thankfully, Amazon has a wonderful return policy and I was in receipt of my replacement lighter within a few days of sending the email stating it had been a faulty lighter. The replacement lighter works well enough, but I am noticing that the more it gets used, the less reliable it is to light the first time. Sometimes it doesn't light until the fourth or fifth strike and it also sometimes only comes to half flame level flickering and spitting as if it doesn't have enough fuel. I would not recommend this lighter.

4Works for me!
By R. Jones
I know I've read a lot of reviews about how it won't light consistently for others, problems with flame height, etc, but honestly, I had done some reading somewhere a while back on butane, and the quality making the difference for some butane lighters. I am one of those people that MUST have the windproof flame available, because I drive with my windows open so much - who wants to wind everything up every time? Unfortunately, most of the butane torch lighters suffer from horrible build quality, with the only ones lasting over 4 months being the Walmart $2.50 ones.

Anyway, from what I read, if you really want good quality butane, you won't buy the ronson stuff right there in the "Impulse Buy" section at the cash register; and in reality, not even the Zippo fluid is supposed to be the highest quality. I went to my local tobacco shop and got the Colibri butane fluid, and that's what I've put in my Zippo since day one.

Performance? Owned for the last 6 weeks or so, and only twice has it not lit on the very first try, and both of those times it had sat in the car all night with temps below freezing. And both of those times, it lit the second go around. No more guesswork on how much butane is really in there since there's a window on the side to measure fluid level. And the height is JUST right, minus it being stuck outside all night, then it's kinda low, but that's any lighter.

I haven't had to do all that purging, cleaning, burping, whatever people are doing with their Zippo Blu lighters, just keep filling it with Colibri - which, by the way, lasts at least a month with daily, 1/2 to 3/4 pack use.

Worth the premium price over lesser fluid :)
