5Nifty laser guide retrofit
By Michael R. Hanneld
Instructions: not too much ... not too little. Just enough information to answer any questions - without having to read a book. The laser guide is made in China, but the instructions are in coherent English (not always the case), and the illustrations are clear and informative. Batteries needed to be installed - no mention of that, but I cleverly figured out that if you follow the instructions for replacing the batteries, but omit the step about removing the old batteries, it works!

Workmanship: fit and finish is excellent - everything is smoothly polished, and all the pieces fit together tightly. Since this device has a centrifugal switch and must operate in a dusty environment, that counts for more than just good looks.

Installation: well, inasmuch as I was changing the miter saw blade, anyway, the installation was a snap and no extra work whatsoever. Just a matter of substituting the laser guide for the standard outer washer that rests against the saw blade. Probably a 30 second job if your tools are handy. Everything fit just as advertised ... the standard blade bolt worked just fine with the laser guide, and there was plenty of clearance for the blade safety guard. Worked perfectly the first time I turned on the saw.

Operation: actually, it works even better than I expected. I was outside, and the laser light was still plenty bright enough to be seen. I was pleased to find that the line created by the laser was thinner and more precise than I thought it'd be. The instructions make something of a to-do about the alignment of the light and the slight shift in the line as the blade is lowered to the work surface. I didn't find this to be a problem - in fact, it's barely noticeable. It's super easy to align the laser line with a pencil mark, and the blade cuts right on the edge of the laser line.

Other: the laser guide appears to be durable, but of course time will tell on that. Since it's battery-powered, I presume the batteries (3 watch-type button batteries) will need replacement occasionally, and that will be a minor nuisance (okay, a 2 minute job). However, since the light is switched on and off automatically (by the centrifugal switch) and therefore illuminates only when the blade is spinning, I would expect the batteries to last a long, long time. Incidentally, while this device is intended as a cutting guide, it's a pretty nifty safety gizmo, too - if there's a laser line on your finger, you might not want to drop the blade any further!

Bottom line: I like it - a lot! I'll consider getting one for my circular saw, if I can be sure there's a model that will fit. For a retrofit on equipment that didn't originally come with a laser guide, this is a great little device - and a good value for the relatively modest cost.

5FANTASTIC !
By T. Weber
At first I thought a product like this was needless overkill. After having installed it on my Bosch sliding compound miter saw, I couldn't have been more wrong. First, it's allowed me to finally true up the saw blade to the fence with a degree of accuracy I've never had before. Second, when I make a cut it is precise beyond anything I've been able to do in the past. I'm not a professional by any means. If I were, maybe I would not need this, but I'll take all the help I can get. I agree with everything the previous reviewer wrote. Rockler Woodworking sells these for only $19.99, so you may want to check there. I am so pleased with this product it almost makes me want to buy another saw just so I can install one of these on it. 5Simple and effective
By James C. Westland
I added this to my 10" Hitachi miter saw in about 5 minutes. Nothing much to do - unscrew back, add included batteries, replace washer on the left of the blade with the RS-1. I've posted a picture of the unit when I first started it up.

I purchased this on Amazon for $14.95, but it is listed under a slightly different description at $21 on Amazon. I think this may cause some confusion, since the specs are not stated for this particular listing ... anyway here they are:

1. This product is the Infiniter RS-1 (I've posted pictures of the unopened carton)
2. It fits 5/8" arbor with squared end and internal threading (most saws, particularly at the lower end like mine)
3. It is activated on/off by centrifugal force (turns on when the blade is spinning)
4. The insides are very simple -- a laser, 3 batteries, centrifugal switch, and small board (I've posted a picture of the inside of the unit)
5. When you take off the washer that came with your saw, tape it to your user manual; you will be less likely to lose it (picture added)
