Factory needs a better Quality review process

This unit worked perfectly for 20 minutes. It then started to shutdown due to "spindle errors". Per the poorly written instruction manual, I changed the batteries along with a few other checks, but the unit never functioned properly again. It would shutdown more quickly when the scan/sweep mode was started. In any case, the factory obviously needs to step up and prevent these from going out the door. They also need to review their own instruction manuals. The figures described in each section are scattered throughout the manual making it unnecessarily difficult to use. I expected much better for nearly $1000. Perhaps a one-off lemon, but I returned it and am now happily using an optical level with no electronics and 1/3 the price tag.

Unbelievable

Here it is June 2012 and the only other review was in March 2010. Unit came opened, batteries installed in two of the three units, and the other batteries were loose. A display tag was on the laser unit. Obviously this was a used/demo unit and not NEW. I did read the first review, but that the first review was two years old and things change.
Well I was wrong; things do not change. Same complaint, different person and year. Being opmistic I ordered a replacement and Amazon Customer Service was great, however, the second item came poorly packaged and open, and the manufacturer's package was damaged with a single piece of tape holding it together. What can I say, other than these are not new, but opened or damaged goods.
If you need this type of CST Berger Laser level now, then you may need to go elsewhere. The good news was that Amazon Customer Service refunded my money immediately, and thanks goes that that group for sure. Hope you find this review helpful
