Product Description
The DEWALT DW089k Line Laser features multiple design enhancements to improve productivity on the jobsite. The DW089K is ideal for professionals tasked with residential and commercial applications such as installing cabinets, drop ceilings, chair rails or doors and windows. Unlike many line lasers on the market, the DW089K features a second plumb line that forms a 90-Degree intersecting line on the floor and ceiling. This third vertical beam allows contractors to use the tool for layout applications without the need for a second laser, saving time and allowing users to be as productive as possible. For commercial wall layout applications, the DW089K has a track clearance of over 1-3/4-Inch, which means there is no need for additional accessories to raise the laser over drywall track. This Line Laser also has a micro adjust knob for easy alignment, a metal roll cage for durability, and an integrated pivot bracket and universal wall mount that is ideal for acoustical ceiling installation. The micro adjust knob is especially important in that it allows users to steadily adjust the 90-Degree layout lines in small increments without the need to nudge the laser to hit a specific mark. For improved visibility, the beam on the DW089K is two-times brighter than the beam on DEWALT's current line laser. The brighter beam provides increased visibility over long distances as well as in direct sunlight. Accurate within 1/8 of an inch at 30-Feet, the DW089K allows contractors to feel confident in their results when using this product. To alleviate the difficulty professionals often experience when they try to access control panels on the rear of existing units.

Calibration ????
By K. Holm
Recently purchased the DeWalt DW089. Performed the field calibration accuracy test out of the box. Wow. Per DeWalt's instructions I checked the laser at 30' and found it to be off more than 1/2 an inch. Ran the test several more times and got nothing near the allowable distance of 1/8". So I took it to the DeWalt service center for service. They told me they would do a service test here (Kansas City area) and if it needed more service it would be sent to Houston, Texas. Never heard anything and I called and they said they had to order a new part.
Thought about it and decided why should I be replacing a part on a new tool so I went and picked it up (told by service center that they had actually ordered me a new laser). Called Amazon and got a replacement laser level today.
Decided to perform the field calibration accuracy test again before using on job next week. Wow. Not any better results. Actually worse. This time its out of wack 5/8" over the same exact 30'.
So am I expecting too much? Am I doing something wrong? I don't think so. But it begs the question of what my results should be for distances less than 30'.
And if the service center actually performed the same accuracy test and decided that I warranted a new laser lever then I have to assume that the accuracy test if performed on most of the levels purchased are not that accurate. And what are the chances that I can get two out of calibration levels in less that 4 weeks.
My question to the other reviewers of this laser level is did you perform the field calibration test upon purchase or at all at any time after? And what were your results.
I will say that the laser line is very red and easy to read at 30'. Not that impressed with the magnets. Don't seem to hold tightly to base. Seems to slide a bit more than it should.

DeWalt DW089K Laser
By Steve Ras
I liked everything about this laser, except for the fact that the two vertical beams were not square with each other! On recieving the laser I first tested it for square using the 3,4,5 triangle (in this case, 12', 16', and 20') and found that the long leg of the triangle (which should have measured 20') was 3/16 short. Makes it kinda tough to lay out a square when the tool you are using is off by that much! It's going to go back to DeWalt for recalibration.

Failed calibration out of the box
By Meng Wong
The user guide consists mostly of instructions for a field calibration test.
Being a nerd, I followed them.
And I was shocked.
Out of the box, my unit's horizontal plane was off by one inch at 50' - well outside acceptable parameters.
Maybe if DeWalt performed a calibration test at the factory they wouldn't need their customers to do it in the field.
Disappointed.
