Well designed & built

Everything about this is thought out and put together solidly. It's not a heavy apparatus, but it's not cheap sheet metal and flimsy plastic either.The two main aluminum extrusions and stamped steel hanger bracket are easily identifiable as such. The L bracket/shelf is made from two plastic pieces screwed together (4 self tappers) and reinforced with two steel L brackets as well (8 machine screws/nuts). The plastic gear rack is mounted with 6 self tappers from the back side. The raise/lower knob has an integral tensioning wheel and the assembly is mounted with 4 machine screws/nuts. Even the two bottom plumb adjusters turn within metal inserts in the plastic end stop. Everything is screwed together solidly, nothing is a snap fit. The 5/8-11 level mounting screw is removable (for mounting a 1/4-20 mount laser with your own screw?) and has a keeper so it won't fall out. If you wonder if your laser will fit onto the shelf bracket, the one dimension that Johnson doesn't publish is that the 5/8-11 screw comes out to a max dimension of 3 1/8" from the back face. For the Amazon price, I think this is an outstanding value.

easy setup

two screws and it is setup. easy to level out and you can micro set the rotary line, exactly where you want it. Nice for setting up walls for ceramic tile.
