There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of building a model. Whether you’re new to the hobby, an experienced builder, or just looking for a project to share with a child or grandchild, it’s time to discover the thrill in being able to say, “I made that!”

The Story Behind the Model
The Y-wing Fighter is regarded as one of the most durable and reliable fighters in the galaxy. Specially designed for close combat and developed as an attack fighter and bomber, the Starfighter is also suitable for escort duty. The armament primarily consists of laser cannon and rotary ion cannon, but this can be varied to include proton torpedoes and bombs. For a long time the Y-wings occupied a special position in the Rebel Alliance as their most impressive Starfighter and the flagship of the Alliance. This striking multi-role fighter has twin engines and can withstand very heavy fire, but it has a limited payload and is inferior to the latest Imperial assault craft in terms of speed, stealth and manoeuvrability. Behind the cockpit of the Y-wing there is an R2 or R5 droid to assist the pilots, in front of a Class I Hyperdrive engine in the mid-section between the two outriggers. In particular in the battle against the death star the Y-wing fighters returned to the fore.

Helpful Hints For Building
Your Y-Wing Fighter is a Level 1 kit - it's perfect for anyone new to model kit building, as well as experienced builders. Always study the assembly drawings included in the packaging before beginning. Each plastic part is identified by a part number. This kit may be snapped together, but for extra stability, you may want to cement or glue the parts as well. Trimming to remove extra plastic and filing to smooth before part assembly is suggested. If you're looking to take the next step in model building, don't miss any of the Revell glue model kits - like the Revell Star Wars®Republic Star Destroyer Model Kit.

5Great Model kit of the classic Y-Wing
By T. Zhuang
Initially, I was quite surprised at how small the model kit itself is compared to the fairly large box that it came in. A lot of the box was simpley open space, so don't be decieved into thinking it's a big model.

I don't know what scale this model's in, but I have some private doubts about it being in the same scale as Revell's X-Wing starfighter since the Astro Droid and Rebel Pilot figures are both smaller than the X-Wing's. The Y-Wing itself it exactly the same length as the X-Wing, from blaster tip to rear thruster cages. It measures around 8.5 inches long. (Honesly, I thought the Y-Wing would be a little longer and bigger compared to the X-Wing, but at least it isn't any smaller than it's famous counterpart.)

As far as the model itself goes, it's a simple build, and since it is a Level 1 Beginner model, no paint, glue, or any other toxic chemicals are needed to complete the model right out of the box. Just snap and go. However, it looks rather bland without some black lining to go in the crevices. There's a whole world of detail on this thing, but you need to put in some time and effort to bring them out with a lining marker or paint. Another slight quirk I have with it (which really isn't the model's fault) is that there haven't been any incarnations of the Y-Wing with it's hull plates still attached. Therefore, after it's fully lined, there's so much complicated detail that it looks a little off next to the less intricate X-Wing. The rear thrusters could also use a little painting. The opening cockpit hatch is a nice little gimmick that Revell was kind enough to include, but after assembly, it's too tight, and you can barely open it. Therefore, to remedy this, I suggest cutting off the peg that locks it in place. This way, it's easy to open, and despite the loss of the peg, it doesn't fall open due to friction holding it together. The turret on the top of the cockpit can also rotate.

A small Astromech Droid (not an R2 Unit) is included with the model, along with a Rebel Pilot that can fit snugly into the cockpit. (Although the Droid is nice, the pilot is not; he looks like a small blob of plastic and paint sloshed together to look like a Rebel, so I suggest just leaving him out of the cockpit completely.)

My only complaint with this kit is that it doesn't come with a display stand, landing gear, or any sort of hard point attachment to make it do more than sit on your table. Of course, I have plenty of action bases to choose from to get this ship up in the air, but some may find it frustrating that it doesn't come with any equipment to make it airborne. (The entire model is actually very well balanced, so when you're putting it on a stand, you don't need to worry about the front being heavier than the back or anything.)

Overall, awesome model, and I defenetly reccomend it to any Star Wars enthusiest, especially someone familar with touching up plastic model kits.

By JediKnights
I just got this toys and I`m so glad.I would say this toys is remind me when I was little.I used to have Tie fighter and X-wing back in late 70`s and I still have it.I remember I asked my parent to get the Y-wing for Christmas but it didn`t happen because of money.I finally have this and I thought this toys will look different and bad according from previous review. But,I really like it.The toys is not very authentic look but it is worth to collect it.I`m Star Wars fans basically I like the classic one and This toys is great to have it.

3Small
By AmazonBuyer175
I am a big fan of the Revell Star Wars snap together models, but I was a little disappointed with this one. The scale is smaller than the Darth Vader tie fighter and the awesome imperial shuttle. There isn't really anything wrong with it other than the fact that it is just a little too small. It feels more miniature and toy like than a good display model should. Assembly is easy and once completed it looks nice, but more plasticy than others in the Revell line-up. Extra care is needed on the long thin struts that attach the back of the engine mountings. Make sure you know what you are doing when you detach them from the plastic frame holders so you don't accidentally remove important attachment points. I had to use an exacto knife to cut them off in the right place. And be sure to attach the front guns piece the right way up, the curve should be on top. It's hard to tell there is a curve until you put them in upside down and then it is too late. It was more difficult than other Revell Star Wars models. Painting would probably improve how it looks. It measures about 9" long by 5" wide.
