5Never knew how much I needed this thing!
By Allen
Ok, so for $100 I was on the fence of whether I actually "needed" this thing. I do several home projects and having a quality laser level can speed up and ease those projects along. Well, now that I've owned this for several months and used it on a number of projects (painting, hanging photos, installing new stair rails, etc), I can honestly say that this is definitely worth the purchase price. The laser level shoots a beam that is very tall and wide, you will only need to reposition this thing a few times to cover an entire small to medium sized room if you're wanting to run a line horizontally all the way across the room. For the stair railing, to cut holes for the balusters, the way you'd need to do it without a level such as this is mark your position on the top rail, then hang a plumb bob and mark the bottom spot. This is very tedious (believe me, this is how I was doing it previously). For one rail, it probably took me 30 minutes. After I got this level, all you do is mark you top bar, put that laser line over your top mark and mark the bottom. Absolutely beautiful. This was well made and comes with everything you need. My only complaint is putting everything back in the box. I would suggest taking a picture of how everything is laid in there before you start taking it all out so that you'll know how it needs to be positioned to be able to close the box back up!

Again, an absolutely fantastic product. If you do many home projects that require straight line precision, I highly recommend this product.

4Great support, a couple of product issues
By Neil Rosenberg
This is a super product, comparable to substantially more expensive units, and in a handy carrying case to boot. The projected lines are clear and thin (that's good), it self-levels wonderfully, and you even get a nicely made tripod with a hand crank and adjustable legs.

So why didn't I give this 5 stars?

1. The unit arrived with something loose inside the sealed level housing, rattled like a child's toy.
2. With the included tripod you can only get as high as 48" from the floor, not over five feet as one of the other reviewers stated. This makes it not quite tall enough to set for the bottom of kitchen cabinets, which are usually around 54" from the floor. You'll have to put the tripod on blocks or paint cans to lift it up.

In spite of this I still heartily recommend this product, and here's why. When I called tech support I got an actual knowledgeable human being (Jim) who quickly shipped out a replacement unit, asking only that I return the defective one to him so he could analyze what broke loose. The replacement arrived in two days, is perfect, and they even gave me a taller tripod to compensate for my trouble.

A solid company, superb support, and a product that I KNOW will be a real help in my upcoming kitchen cabinet job.

Congrats to Johnson, this is a winner.

3Great level, very short tripod
By Kevin S.
I used this to install 120 TV wall mounts at a college dormitory. It made work so very simple. We coordinated with the contractor to put wood backing at the TV location so we would just get the mounts level and screw them down without having to figure out the stud placements. Using a drill template and this laser level we were able to install 1 tv mount every 5 minutes.

The bad: The tripod only goes up about 4 feet, maybe a little more. Well easy solution would be to get another tripod, right? NO! It uses proprietary threads, not the standard thread that cameras use. So I got a professional tripod that had a very large head so I could just set the laser on top of it. Very disappointed that they went this route.

Other thoughts: If the room is very bright they include eye glasses that turns everything red, but makes the laser beam jump off the wall.

It's a great unit, just a little disappointed that they made the tripod so short and the fact that you can't easily use a different one.
